We have no way to know what went on behind closed doors. I was in a toxic, abusive relationship for years and both of us were toxic, together. My gut says they both were extremely narcissistic and the power balance was heavily off because of age difference - not uncommon for older men to want to be with much younger women to take command of the relationship and all of the toxicity from that will play out - she wasn't happy being completely passive because I think she liked her independence and strength - as a ballerina she had those qualities. If he got possessive and jealous and had rage, that can get really dangerous.
